Navman S30

An inexpensive, well designed and intuitive menu system. Although it does lack features like traffic information, a widescreen map display, and a navpix camera. Pluses include good battery life and ease of use.

Navman F30

An entry level GPS unit with speed camera info, traffic receiver and eight digit postcode search.
Easy to use with top TMC (traffic management channel) reception, but let down by operational issues.

TomTom ONE

Small and powerful, expandable yet inexpensive.This portable GPS unit has great useability and fast processor. Great entry level model sat nav.

TomTom ONE XL

Simple to use and jam packed with handy features when hooked up to a cell phone. Although this unit doesn’t have all the multimedia features of the GO, it still holds its own.

TomTom GO 520/720/920

An improvement on the GO series, with a clear 4 inch wide screen, and 400Mhz processor. The 720 has full European maps, and the 920 adds US maps, MP3 player, 4 Gig storage and RDS traffic receiver.

TomTom GO 530/730/930T

This model not only has a new slick black casing, new features improve on the already amazing GO family.These include lane guidance, and IQ routes, which offers different routes depending on the time of day.

Garmin nuvi 780

This is the most advanced Garmin standalone device. With more features than a swiss army knife. Monitor traffic, listen to your tunes receive fuel prices in your area, view events, news and stock quotes. You can use it for navigation as well!!

Mio C250

As an entry level GPS the Mio C250 works well, albeit with a few quirks including navigational issues ( what does ‘turn slightly left’ mean?) Play music on the inbuilt MP3 player, but a nightmare to load the tunes.

Mio C520T

A powerful package that is let down by an inconsistent software interface. Packed with useful features including 4.3 inch split screen, phone hands-free Bluetooth, local points of interest, and TMC (traffic message channel)

Medion GOPAL

This sat nav is a little bulky for my liking, but has clear voice commands. The operating system is a little slow. Better value elsewhere….

Navigon7000T

Although it’s processor is a little slow, this GPS is one of my favorites. It has great visuals and innovative features, and looks elegant. Points of interest include company logos, making it easy to identify maps with the real world. Navigon software has been used in other units including the Mio, now they have decided to release their own GPS unit.
